Searching For Matte Perfection But Not A Nude

You may have noticed that I have not taken to the Matte Nude Lip trend. Don't get me wrong, I've considered it but I remember stealing my mums nude lipsticks in the 90s and beyond a long and continued obsession with gold lipstick I've never felt the need to revisit the travesty of that decades fashions. This may change! It will probably be around the same time that Kylie Jenner receives a personality. You never know! In the mean time my nude lips will stay moist and creamy.

That doesn't mean that I don't still love a good matte lip. In fact I absolutely love matte makeup. It just has to be bright and colourful. It started with my purchase of the original Velveteen by Lime Crime (Back in the days before we discovered their dodgy ethics). My Velveteen has long since been lost (RIP) but the love is still there. I have tried most of the high street knock offs and none of them compare although some come close!

As you can see above from the swatches the most "matte" of my matte lip products are the Collection Matte Lip Butter's and the Top Shop Lip Crayon. They swatch beautifully but if you have even a flake of dry skin then be prepared for everyone to know about it. These are not forgiving products.

The closest I have to the 90s matte lip look is my Lip Liner from NARS. Now the matching lip stick is most definitely not matte however the pencil can be blended out into a full lip on its own. And you can always use a bit of setting powder to really matte down the lip stick. This can be done with pretty much any lipstick if you have the patience to do it every time you apply!

I'm still searching for the perfect matte. I haven't found my holy grail "I must have one in every colour" product yet (alas Velveteen was perfect but those damn ethics just get in the way of everything don't they?!)

So here is where it feels like the planets align. As I was writing this and lamenting the loss of my Velveteen and cursing the failure of high street brands I received an email from the lovely folks at Inglot Ireland telling me about their new HD Lip Tint Matte range which has just come available on pre-sale at Inglot.ie

Just look at that red! It could be the perfect replacement. Now I just have to save my pennies because there's at least three colours I desperately need here and at €22 each I'd say It's a good thing I'm on an extremely restricted diet these days. No more food for Bex!

Matcha Madness: The Body Shop Matcha Tea Face Mask Review

My name is Bex and I am a mask addict! I love masks. Cream, clay, mud, peeling, sheet, cellulose, nourishing... you name it and I love it! I recently spent an evening with the amazing staff from The Body Shop Belfast learning about all their key products and celebrating their cruelty free status and at the end of the night I was very kindly gifted their Japanese Matcha Tea pollution clearing mask - I was delighted!  We all know that the world has gone Matcha crazy but beyond an occasional frappe from a well known coffee house my main experiences have been with Matcha flavour cakes from my local asian supermarket. They are seriously amazing and the lightest sponge I've ever eaten but it doesn't exactly scream "good for you". Thankfully, apart from being seriously tasty Matcha is ridiculously good for you. Traditionally brewed as a simple green tea it is packed full of antioxidants - 10 times the amount in normal green teas as you are consuming the precious groun

Ophrys Skincare

If you have been following my blogs and social media you will have seen that I am currently partnering with Therapie Clinics and trying out their range of specialist facials to try and improve my skin. Alongside the facials (my second of which is coming up in April!) I have really tried to up my game with my skin care. Rather than just slapping everything that says hydration on I am really trying to target specific areas and problems. This has not been without it's troubles as my sensitive skin tries to adjust to this higher level of care. As a result of this - and a few other internal factors - I have been experiencing a few more breakouts than normal but I have been coping with them better. It's all about the give and take. And when it comes to the 'give' I was very lucky to be approached by Ophrys Skincare to talk about their new range of low molecular hyaluronic skincare with their patented Mini-Hax particle. "Low Ma-what?" I hear you say? Well... Low
