Make me a Nail Technician update

I am officially 2 months in to my wee course at college and absolutely loving it.

At only 3 hours a week though it is slow going, especially given that we are spending half our time working on theory. A vital step though as it is equally important to know about anatomy & contra-indications (nail disorders that could prevent treatment) and as a nail geek I'm in my element!

If you've been following me on Instagram you will have seen a few sneaky snaps of my progress but today I thought I'd share my first proper full set of finished acrylics!

Pretty good if I do say so myself! Not perfect but watch this space come June! They've actually lasted really well and I've not had any lifting or popping off which means my pre treatment nail prep is going well too.

I can't wait to keep learning and progressing and, most importantly, practicing on anyone with a spare evening. We will soon be moving on to the slightly easier task of gel extensions and we've been warned that most people prefer one or the other. For now I'm very happy with acrylics so we shall see what happens!

This article has been going through my head quite a lot recently and I’m feeling a little self indulgent so bear with me. As a kid I was on the special needs list throughout school and given a classroom assistant to help with my tracheostomy care. I was considered disabled enough to warrant disability benefits right up until I turned 18 when they decided that I wasn’t mentally incapacitated enough and too independent. A new concept restaurant for Belfast, and a welcome addition to the cathedral quarter, brought to us from Edinburgh and Glasgow. 6 courses rotating every 6 weeks for only 28.00 and you’re going to want to keep up with them because once they’re gone, they’re gone. With themes such as Vietnamese street food and Parisien cuisine, even a Disney theme being featured in their past menus I am looking forward to seeing what Nico and his team will come up with for Belfast.
