Monday mane-tenance

You may roll your eyes at the, painfully, alliterative title but I was really proud of that when I thought it up at stupid o’clock last night. After close to a decade of blogging in some form or another it gets hard to come up with these things!

As you might have guessed we’re here today today to talk about my Monday night hair ritual. You’ve heard of Skincare Sunday, well this Monday Mane-tenance. Every week - pretty much - I give my hair a loving boost with some form of deep treatment. My current favourite combo - in an effort to try and keep my colour between hairdresser appointments - is the Clairol Colour Booster in copper and the infamous £1 Argan Oil hair mask available from Poundland.

There are a number of colour boosters on the market at the minute. I had been toying with buying the Maria Nila luminous colour masques on the Sally’s website when I came across the Clairol version in store in Superdrug. Half the price and right in front of my face. Just how I like it. I’ve been using it for about about two months now and even my hairdresser has commented at how well it has helped hide my growth and kept my ends from looking pale and broken, which they absolutely still were. This is not a miracle cure from damaged hair, the only thing that will help that is a sharp pair of scissors laying off the heat, and proper nutrition - my body is nutritionally starved thanks to the Crohns and Coeliacs so I'm hoping that once I get both of those under control it will start to improve. In the mean time I'm hoping two out of three ain't bad with a new standing appointment to get a trim and an Olaplex treatment every 5-6 weeks and by using a mainly cold setting on my hair dryer. It's early days but I'm noticing the difference!

So thats my current routine, I notice a massive difference in my hair when I don't do the deep conditions, I'm under no illusions that they are repairing the damage but anything I can do to prevent more and reduce visibility is fine by me and I think the video below shows just that!

I'm always on the lookout for budget friendly hair care, so please don't be afraid to lend your suggestions.

The Ordinary by The Abnormal Beauty Company (or how I dipped my toe in to Deciem)

The Ordinary by the Abnormal Beauty Company ; If you haven't heard about this cult brand yet then you might not know they are hot shit right now and with their parent company, Deciem , being bought up by Estée Lauder they're only going to get bigger.   The internet has been a buzz for months now with beauty gurus far and wide raving about these high end products for low end prices. I couldn't believe it myself when I saw that there wasn't a product in the range that cost more than 8.00 quid!  So I joined the cult. I have to say that I was really impressed by the counter staff in House Of Fraser Belfast , they were friendly, knowledgeable and able to point me in the direction of the products I needed with just a short chat about my skin. I bought the Hyaluronic Acid 2% and the Niacinimide 10% Serums. If you have no idea what these mean then basically the Hyaluronic is for hydration and, whilst The Ordinary say that Niacinimide combats blemishes, I would ac...

Matcha Madness: The Body Shop Matcha Tea Face Mask Review

My name is Bex and I am a mask addict! I love masks. Cream, clay, mud, peeling, sheet, cellulose, nourishing... you name it and I love it! I recently spent an evening with the amazing staff from The Body Shop Belfast learning about all their key products and celebrating their cruelty free status and at the end of the night I was very kindly gifted their Japanese Matcha Tea pollution clearing mask - I was delighted!  We all know that the world has gone Matcha crazy but beyond an occasional frappe from a well known coffee house my main experiences have been with Matcha flavour cakes from my local asian supermarket. They are seriously amazing and the lightest sponge I've ever eaten but it doesn't exactly scream "good for you". Thankfully, apart from being seriously tasty Matcha is ridiculously good for you. Traditionally brewed as a simple green tea it is packed full of antioxidants - 10 times the amount in normal green teas as you are consuming the precious groun...

Faeriwood Eats: Wolf & Devour, gluten free dining done right

I get asked a lot about how people can go about promoting their businesses and whilst it is a huge question one of the things I will always recommend is social media and Instagram. I love it. I've discovered so many good restaurants while browsing hashtags and local accounts. Recently I was scrolling through  #Glutenfreebelfast  and spotted five glorious words.  Gluten. Free. Mac'n'Cheese. Balls.  Cue heavy breathing.  It wasn't until we were sitting down in the small but gorgeously laid out premises - think modern cantina with industrial and urban garden accents - that I realised I've actually seen the  Wolf &  Devour  food truck around festivals and fairs but I had always assumed, being full of all things bready, that they were just a no go for little old Coeliac me. Knowing that they had at least this one gf item on the menu gave me the confidence to go and visit their Ballyhackamore restaurant as soon as I physically coul...
