Can you contour a round face? Sleek Cream Contour Palette Review

If you pay attention you'll know I have an issue with contouring. It's not the technique itself, which until a few years ago was used mostly by drag queens to make their features more feminine. It's more the attitude that every single part of my body apparently needs to be sculpted to look more chiselled, more womanly. It's an unhealthy mind frame. I've seen people contour their face, lips, eyebrows, collarbones, abs, all sorts of ridiculous places. I've seen them use powders, creams and even fake tans all with the goal of making their features slimmer.

Because being round is wrong… right?

Well I have a round face and no amount of "contouring" is going to make it look like I suddenly have concaved cheeks but  there is still a way to use this technique to my advantage and still look like a normal person. No, you are not going to see any harsh "defined" lines on this look. Luckily I found the perfect set to achieve my subtle glow. The new Sleek Cream Contour Kit.

Looking like pretty much every other cream contour kit on the market this range comes in three shades, light, medium, and dark. I, of course, chose the lightest shade and got it from Cloud10beauty.com with the aid of a cheeky 15% discount code.

I was delighted when I swatched the palette that the creams themselves are quite sheer and not massively pigmented. Some people might think this is a negative point but for me this means that I don't have to worry about accidentally tangoing myself.

Of the 6 shades I use each one differently. I use the 3 lighter "highlight" shades to add a brightness to my foundation. They're not pigmented enough to use underneath as a colour correct or concealer and definitely are not pale enough to actually lighten or highlight my features. I don't mind this though because I'm super pale and the whole point here is to add tone.
The 3 darker shades I use to create a sun-kissed glow. As I've said before I'm not going to delude myself into thinking I can create a hollow on my round chipmunk cheeks but I can make it look like I've been outside for more than an hour.

I really like this kit. It's a great starting point for anyone who wants to practice the techniques of contouring and highlight without looking like they've rubbed dirt on their cheeks. I would recommend investing in a decent translucent setting powder alongside the kit however as they are super creamy and you will end up just wiping it all off if you don't.

Benito Brow Bar Belfast opens in Topshop Victoria Square

There's a new brow bar in Belfast and they are set to take the town by storm. Located on the ground floor of Topshop Victoria Square, in the accessories and make-up section, Benito Brow Bar promises to offer quick, professional service to Belfast's fashionistas. You may think it's a bit strange to have a brow bar in a clothes shop but Topshop's London branches have hosted nail and hair bars such as WAH Nails and BLEACH London. These brands have gone on to become huge successes across the UK's high streets with books and their own product lines on sale. Beauty and Fashion go hand in hand according to Topshop and brows are just the latest trend they are setting.  I was lucky enough to spend an evening with the girls at Benito Belfast and along with a few other bloggers, received a demo of the Benito process and a cheeky cupcake. We were then all treated to a consultation and our own treatments. I went for just a simple threading as I'm already dark and I'm not …

No Halloween Costume Needed

It's become an accepted norm that once December 1st comes around the nations will don their snowflake print leggings and their novelty jumpers but so far the other seasons are lacking in their effort. Yes, Halloween is famous as being the single greatest costume day of the year but I need October to step and represent in the seasonal apparel game.
Thankfully retailers have heard my inner goth cry and have come up with some seriously cute Halloween inspired items. For those who love a slogan tee you have every variation of saying that could possibly be made by rhyming witch with bitch and if you don't say every one of with Emma Roberts' attitude then you need to watch season 3 of American Horror Story immediately!

Dressing with the seasons is clearly big money but it doesn't have to cost the world. Here are my choices of how to get into the Halloween spirit all under £30.

Faeriwood Kitchen: on tour at Hillmount Barbecue Academy

There's nothing quite like a glimpse of bright sunlight peeking through the clouds to send us scurrying to the supermarket for a barbecue meat pack and some burger buns but at Hillmount they have news for you, you can barbecue all year round, in any weather, and still have the most amazing meals, quickly!
This week I had the chance to attend Hillmount Barbecue Academy, on the outskirts of Belfast, and their three hour BBQ Lesson. In that short time we chilled out, learnt a few recipes and cooked a three course meal! Gone are the days of waiting hours for your coals to heat up and cook your sausages to a crispy black char. Step away from that disposable barbecue and treat your grill like your oven and you'll be having flame grilled delights every week just like our Austrailian and American buddies.
Here are just a few of the things I learnt during our lesson
